About Travel Therapy Housing
Travel Therapy Housing is a guide to finding a place to live for the length of a travel contract, published by a travel therapy agency. It is not a listing site and gives no tax advice, and the rent figures on its city guides are rendered from HUD's published Fair Market Rents rather than typed by hand.
What is Travel Therapy Housing?
It is for travel PTs, OTs, SLPs and assistants who need housing for a contract: first-time travelers deciding between the housing stipend and agency housing, and experienced travelers pricing a new city. The city guides name neighborhoods to start a search in, where to look for furnished housing, how to think about the stipend there and how people get around. The other guides cover a furnished rental against the stipend, how furnished listing sites, monthly rentals and extended-stay hotels differ, leases and move-in, and getting a deposit back, and the housing worksheet sets a listing against the stipend you would otherwise take.
The start here page suggests an order to read them in. This page is about who publishes the site and where its facts come from.
Who publishes this site?
Travel Therapy Housing is published by ProTherapy Staffing, a travel therapy agency that is PT-owned and operated since 2012. The footer of every page names the publisher, and the forms on the guides send your request to its recruiters.
An agency that places travelers has an interest in where they live on assignment and in whether a stipend covers the rent. That is why the site keeps its rent figures to a published government source rather than to the publisher’s own estimates.
What is this site not?
- Not a listing site. It does not rent, book or vet places, and it lists no individual rentals. The neighborhoods on a city guide are areas to start a search in, not a ranking or a price list.
- Not a quote. HUD’s Fair Market Rent describes an ordinary unfurnished lease with utilities included, so it is a reference point, not the price of a furnished place for your dates. Price real listings for your exact contract dates and set them against the lodging part of your stipend.
- Not tax advice. Whether a housing stipend stays out of your taxable wages depends on your tax home and your own circumstances, which is a question for your tax preparer.
- No ads or sponsored listings. There are none on the site. Where a guide names a listing site, read its terms yourself before you pay a deposit. The only promotion on the site is the publisher’s own banner and forms.
Where do the rent and stipend facts come from?
- The rent figures on the city cards and city guides are HUD’s Fair Market Rents, rendered from the HUD USER Fair Market Rents data with the area name, the fiscal year and the date they were read. Each city guide’s short FAQ is built from the same figures, so the answer and the card cannot disagree.
- Stipend ceilings are not typed anywhere on the site. For the lodging rate in your contract county, the guides send you to the GSA per diem rates for the fiscal year your contract falls in.
- The home page FAQ quotes the IRS travel expenses publication, GSA and HUD, and the deposit guide quotes the state statutes it relies on and names each state.
- The written guides carry no typed rent or stipend figures, so there is no typed number in them to go stale.
The rent figures live in one data file, so every card and every city FAQ shows the same reading of HUD’s data, and each city guide names the HUD area its figures belong to.
If you want a contract in the city you are pricing, with the stipend set out line by line, ask a ProTherapy recruiter: Find my next contract.
How do you contact the publisher?
Call or text the business line shown on the publisher’s contact page. A text there starts a conversation with a recruiter, so say what you need: a contract in the city you are pricing, a question about the stipend in an offer, or a city guide you think is out of date.
If a figure on a city guide no longer matches HUD’s data, name the city and the HUD area it shows. The forms at the foot of the guides reach the same recruiters in writing.
Frequently asked questions
Does Travel Therapy Housing rent or recommend specific places?
No. It does not rent, book or vet places, and it lists no individual rentals. The city guides name areas to start a search in and where travelers look for furnished housing.
Why do the rents on the city guides differ from furnished listings?
Because they are HUD Fair Market Rents, which describe an ordinary unfurnished lease with utilities included. A furnished place for a contract is priced differently, so price real listings for your exact dates.
Who publishes Travel Therapy Housing?
A travel therapy agency, named in the section above and in the footer of every page. Its recruiters receive the requests sent through the forms on the guides.
